293 women and girls who were rescued from Boko Haram are currently undergoing medical tests, the Nigerian military has said.
Military
authorities say that the freed captives are being checked by health
officials at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Borno
State.
The women are being tested for HIV and are also being examined to determine if any of them is pregnant, Punch report.
7 of the rescued girls are said to have sustained gunshot wounds and are also being treated at the UMTH.
“We
will talk about it when we are through; we are busy moving them off the
line of duty for a thorough screening. The military would do everything
to take care of them and make them feel not traumatised,” Defence spokesperson, Chris Olukolade said.
The girls and women were rescued from the sect on April 28, 2015, during an operation in Sambisa Forest.
The situation has left many commuters stranded while many car owners have abandoned their vehicles in front of petrol stations.
A severe fuel scarcity is currently plaguing major cities in Nigeria, especially Abuja and Lagos.
The situation has left many commuters stranded while many car owners have abandoned their vehicles in front of petrol stations.
Here are three things you should know about the current fuel scarcity:
The scarcity was caused by the refusal of members of the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) to transport fuel due to debts being owed them by petrol marketers.
The marketers haven’t paid the transporters because they are also being owed a sum of N256.2 billion by the federal government.
The
scarcity is expected to end soon as the FG has concluded plans to pay
the marketers N156bn out of the money owed them today, Thursday, April
30, 2015.
Marc Albrighton has given the Foxes, who were on a four-game winning
streak, the lead, but goals from Didier Drogba, John Terry and Ramires
mean just one more win is needed
Chelsea
can win the Premier League title on Sunday after John Terry and Ramires
struck late to give them a 3-1 come-from-behind victory at Leicester City.
Jose
Mourinho's side extended their lead over both Manchester City and
Arsenal to 13 points with a gutsy win at the King Power Stadium on
Wednesday that showcased their character.
And now Chelsea,
unbeaten in 14 league games, can secure English football's greatest
prize for the first time since 2010 with victory against Crystal Palace
at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Tonight the Blues play their final midweek game
of the season. Club historian Rick Glanvill and club statistician Paul
Dutton are ready for an away game of great importance…
TALKING POINTS
And so the title chase arithmetic becomes a little clearer. The
maximum number of points available to Chelsea, who currently have 77
points, 10 clear of the challengers, is 92. Arsenal can make it to 82,
with a goal difference that is five worse than the Blues’ at present,
but still have to play at Manchester United. Even if the Red Devils win
all their four remaining games they can only match the Blues’ current
points total, while their neighbours City can only improve that by two. Five more points and a better goal difference will deliver the fifth
league title in Chelsea’s history, six will confirm it outright. If the
fired-up celebrations at the end of the Emirates draw are an indicator,
confident Chelsea will be out to finish this as soon as possible. A win tonight would mean the task could be completed at the Bridge in Sunday’s lunchtime encounter with Crystal palace
This was disclosed by the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on
Wednesday, April 29, during an interview with journalists.
In a bid to resolve the current fuel scarcity
plaguing Nigeria, the Federal Government has said that it would pay the
sum of N156bn to oil marketers on Thursday, April 30, 2015, as part of
the debt owed them.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Wednesday, April 29, during an interview with journalists.
The Major Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) had threatened to stop importing fuel if the N256.2bn debt owed them was not paid.
“On
the issue of oil marketers, we have really been working with them and
we have been dialoguing with them all along. We’ve paid N350bn in
December, we paid them N31bn in foreign exchange differentials and by
tomorrow (Thursday) we will be paying them N100bn for which we had
earlier given them IOUs for as well as their interest rate differentials
of N56bn,” Okonjo-Iweala said.
“So, I am
about to go and sign, to get that paid and I think that Nigerians can
see that the government is making maximum effort to accommodate the oil
marketers. They are also Nigerians, and they need to also cooperate with
us,” she added.
Meanwhile commuters and car
owners in Lagos and Abuja are again being subjected to long queues and
exorbitant black market prices due to the unavailability of the product.
The Nigerian military has revealed that
troops this afternoon rescued 200 girls & 93 women from Sambisa

In
all the cases, the President ordered the sack to take immediate effect

Every time we talk about Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel follow-up here on World News, we refer to it by its official name, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
This is certainly an accurate title, as the film does promise to
feature the titular heroes squaring off, but it leaves out the third big
player who is getting her live-action feature debut in the project:
Wonder Woman
The great Amazonian superhero will be introduced in Snyder’s movie when it reaches theaters on May 6, 2016. It’s unclear at the moment, however, how screenwriters Snyder, David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio (Argo)
plan to use Princess Diana of Themyscira in this film. Will it be a
more limited role, letting the film focus more on its eponymous
characters? Or will she be an integral part of the narrative, assisting
Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) as they contend with
the evil schemes of the already announced Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg)?
Perhaps the biggest question overall, however, is in regard to how Batman v Superman will lead into her officially announced solo film, which is now officially in the works.

The attackers were said to have invaded three villages in the Mbadwem
district of Guma Local Government Area in the evening of Saturday, April
25, 2015 and burnt houses and farmland.
About 28 people are said to have died in Benue State after an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The
attackers were said to have invaded three villages in the Mbadwem
district of Guma Local Government Area in the evening of Saturday, April
25, 2015 and burnt houses and farmland.
The trouble was reportedly caused by the alleged murder of two Fulani herdsmen by unidentified youths in the area.
“Two
days ago, two Fulanis were killed in that area for no justifiable
reasons. So, what happened is a reprisal which may have claimed no fewer
than 28 lives,” a source, who chose to remain anonymous, told Vanguard.
The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, Austin Ezeani.
“It
was as a result of the supposed killing of two Fulani herdsmen in that
area, two days ago. The gang, after robbing them and dispossessing them
of their personal belongings, killed them and abandoned their corpses.
So, the Fulani probably informed their brothers in Nasarawa and they
came and carried out a reprisal attack,” Ezeani said.
A similar attack is also reported to have taken place in Nasarawa State, leaving 11 people dead.
The Red Devils' defence could not cope with the hosts' threat on the
break as, despite enjoying most of the possession, they were taken apart
by Roberto Martinez's men
Despite enjoying the majority of possession, Manchester United were handed a shock 3-0 defeat by Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
A
win would have moved the Red Devils, at least temporarily, into second
place but the home side went in front early on when a sizzling
counterattack was finished off by James McCarthy.
John Stones
capitalised on some slow marking at a corner to head home his first goal
for the Toffees shortly before half-time, leaving United reeling, but
not even some attacking substitutions could turn things around for Louis
van Gaal's men.
A controversial decision to rule Romelu Lukaku
as not interfering with play from an offside position saw things go from
bad to worse for United as substitute Kevin Mirallas pounced for the
third, the visiting defence having failed to play to the whistle.
it will be Chelsea's biggest task to date, despite Jose Mourinho's
impressive record against Arsene Wenger - he has won the last 12 games
against the French manager.
If Chelsea win, then a victory at Leicester on Wednesday would seal their first title since 2010.
Arsenal also would be looking forward to winning this important fixture in order to keep their Champions League spot secured and also keep their hopes of winning the title alive . It all goes down to who wants it most.
Paul Pogba could make his return from a hamstring injury in the second leg of Juventus' Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.
Massimiliano Allegri is hopeful of having star midfielder Paul Pogba available for the second leg of Juventus' UEFA Champions League semi-final at Real Madrid on May 13.
France international Pogba missed Juve's quarter-final triumph over Monaco after suffering a hamstring injury in the second leg of his club's last-16 tie with Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of Sunday's Derby della Mole at Torino, Juve boss Allegri said: "We are doing everything possible to have him back for the second leg of the semi-final."
The
return of Pogba, who has frequently been linked with moves to several
clubs including Real, would be a significant boost for Juve as they aim
to progress at the expense of the reigning European champions.
Allegri acknowledged the size of the task facing his side, adding: "We'll be playing against the European champions, a galactic team."
Victory
over Torino will put the Serie A holders on the brink of a fourth
successive title - and a first under Allegri, who revealed Patrice Evra will not be available on Sunday.
"It's difficult to play against Torino, we can't underestimate this one at all," added the former Milan coach.
"Torino are a well-organised side with good players.
"Six more points are required to mathematically win the title. Tomorrow will be a very tough game.
"I've got everyone available bar Evra. I'll work out my best starting XI after today's [Saturday's] session."

Rumer Willis told The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM, ''It was definitely
weird for a minute, but I have to commend him... He was a really great
stepfather.''
Demi Moore's daughter, Rumer Willis [with Bruce Wilis ] has admitted she had a huge crush on her mom's ex husband Ashton Kutcher before he even got married to her.
Willis, now 26, said of Kutcher on The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM,
''It was definitely weird for a minute, but I have to commend him... He
was a really great stepfather. The perspective switched quickly. That’s
when you open up your Teen Beat, you take him down and put somebody
else up. I feel like I told my sister that at some point, 'Gotta cross
him off the list.'''
Demi Moore brought Kutcher
home in 2003 and later married him in 2005. At the time Willis was 17,
Kutcher was 27, and Moore was 42. But instead of feeling upset or
resentful toward her mother, the Dancing With the Stars contestant says: “No, I was kind of impressed, I was like ‘Yeah girl, get it!’” she told Stern of her reaction to her mom loving a younger man.
Willis says she is friends with Ashton despite him divorced from her mother since 2013.
Ashton is now engaged to actress Mila Kunis and share a daughter named Wyatt Isabelle.
Speaking on the discovery, Professor Daniela Riccardi, from Cardiff
University School of Biosciences described the finding as "incredibly
exciting"
Asthma could become a thing of the past within the next 5 years following a breakthrough discovery by scientists.
According to Telegraph, researchers at Cardiff University and Kings College London identified which cells cause the airways to narrow when triggered by irritants like pollution.
Drugs
already exist which can deactivate the cells and based on this, the
scientists are hopeful that in the future asthmatics take the drug to
prevent an attack ever happening and ending the need to constantly carry
an inhaler.
Speaking on the discovery, Professor Daniela Riccardi, from Cardiff University School of Biosciences described the finding as "incredibly exciting".
She further said:
"If
we can prove that calcilytics are safe when administered directly to
the lung in people, then in five years we could be in a position to
treat patients and potentially stop asthma from happening in the first
place.”
Prior too this, scientists knew that
asthma was caused by inflammation in the small tubes which carry air and
out of the lungs, but did not know what was triggering it.
However
experiments on mice and human airway tissue found that calcium sensing
receptor (CaSR ) cells, which detect changes in the environment, go into
overdrive in asthmatics, triggering airway twitching, inflammation, and
narrowing.
But when calcilytic drugs are inhaled, it deactivates the cells and stops all symptoms.
Scientists
are hoping that clinical trials will begin soon and it is believed that
this new discovery could also pave the way for new treatments for
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic bronchitis, for
which currently no cure exists.

He told us he’d be back. He just neglected to tell us how many times. Is the fifth planned Terminator movie a reboot? A sequel? We’re hearing it’s both. Kind of. It might have Arnold Schwarzenegger. It could have Dwayne Johnson in an unspecified role. All we know is that, at the moment, it will be directed by Thor: The Dark World helmer Alan Taylor. And it will be in theaters in 2015, so we’re patiently awaiting more details.
Ben Affleck is The Batman. Get over it, and move on to preparing for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel
sequel, which preports to have the Dark Knight taking on Superman,
possibly forcing this alien to answer for the destruction he caused in
Metropolis. Snyder and David S. Goyer are working out the details of
this script, so we don’t know for sure what direction they’re going to
head, but by teasing the movie with a direct quote from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns,
we don’t think Bats and Supes are going to be great friends at the
start of this story. If Snyder’s movie soars, expect Warner to
greenlight that Justice League movie. If it tumbles, though, you
can pitch the entire DC Cinematic Universe into chaos and disarray.
Which might be fun, also.

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Jurgen Klopp will leave the club this summer.
The former Mainz boss took the reins at BVB in the summer of 2008 and
led the club to an extraordinary period of success, winning two
Bundesliga titles and a DFB Pokal, as well as reaching the Champions
League final.
However, the Westfalenstadion club have struggled this year and sit a
lowly 10th in the league and the 47-year-old will step aside at the
season's end, despite having three years left to run on his contract.
"Borussia Dortmund and coach Jurgen Klopp have agreed to an early
termination of their contract, which originally ran to June 2018," a
club statement read.
Speaking at a press conference, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed that
the coach had held talks with the club on the subject over the last few
days and paid tribute to Klopp.
"We had some talks on Jurgen's initiative and then made the decision
that the way we have been working together incredible success over the
past seven years comes to an end at the end of the season.
"We have a relationship that is built on trust and friendship. Therefore it is obviously a difficult situation for us.
"Jurgen, you can be sure that you have the eternal gratitude of BVB."
Klopp, meanwhile, insisted that he should not have anyone's gratitude
and revealed that he felt that it was the right time to step aside.
"No one should be grateful to me. It is a very fair history in which both sides have given and taken," he said.
"As I have said several times in recent years, I always wanted to let
the club know if I didn't believe that I was the perfect coach for this
extraordinary job.
"In the last few days and weeks I've not been sure that I'm the right
person. But even I couldn't answer this question properly. Therefore I
felt dutybound to myself and Watzke to be honest.
"I am sure that this is absolutely the right decision. This team deserves to have a 100 per cent coach on the touchline.
"It's not that I'm tired. I haven't had any contact form another club
in England or anywhere else. But I don't intend to have a sabbatical
ear. It's just important that we annouce it today so that everyone can
adjust to it and the club can plan."

Atletico Madrid defender Miranda denied his team
carry any residual pain from last year's UEFA Champions League final,
ahead of Tuesday's clash with Real Madrid.
Miranda
and Co. were on track to win the 2013-14 Champions League title when
they led 1-0 in second-half stoppage time in Lisbon in May, but a late
header from Real defender Sergio Ramos forced extra time, before goals
to Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo secured a 4-1 victory for
Carlo Ancelotti's men.
Atletico have not lost to
their archrivals since, however, winning four of six meetings this
season in the UEFA Super Cup, La Liga and Copa del Rey.
Ahead of the two Madrid clubs' meeting in a Champions League quarter-final first leg, Miranda is focused on continuing that run.
"We
have to show that we deserve victory in each game we play. Lisbon is
water under the bridge," the Brazilian defender told Marca.
"We
are thinking ahead. Each game has its own story and this new one will
be written by us: we'll be playing at home and we'll be out for
victory."
Anyone who has seen Atletico play since
coach Diego Simeone took over in December 2011 will know what to expect
from the men in red and white at the Vicente Calderon.
"We'll do what we know best; we'll fight for every ball and go all out to win," Miranda said.
"We both know each other very well by now. It's another clash with them, and we're ready for it."
In the most-recent fixture between the two capital clubs, Simeone's side crushed Real 4-0 at home.

Nigerian military earned respect internationally for their performances,
to fail to secure 14 out of 774, I see that as an irreconcilable
disgrace,” Buhari said.
“I think I am too
experienced in internal security operations to make such a comment. I
don’t think I will make that mistake because of my experiences. Even
when I was in uniform with the rebels in Chad and as the GOC in Jos and
the period when I was Head of State, I did not say such thing so, for me
to say that I will get rid of Boko Haram in two months is not correct; I
don’t think I made that comment,” he added.
“We
will try and work with our neighbours such as Chad and Niger who are
fighting Boko Haram for us. And we are advising Boko Haram to pack and
go,” the President-elect said.
Earlier reports had it that Buhari had made the two-month vow during an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.
