The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the hate campaign launched by the party against President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari was one of the reasons why President Goodluck Jonathan lost the March 28 election.
The statement was made by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh on Monday, May 4, 2015, during a news conference in Abuja.
Metuh also accused Jonathan’s campaign team of excluding the NWC from its operations.
“We
(NWC members) did not lead the party to failure. We were not involved
in the campaigns and our advice was ignored. If we had handled the
campaign, Mr. President would have won the election. We cannot be held
responsible when our advice was ignored,” he said.
“For
those of us in the North, where the type of campaign that we generated
made it impossible for our leaders in the North to garner support for
our candidates because of the hate campaign that was generated, we are
not answerable for it. While I am not holding any excuse for them, we
cannot be held accountable for issues that were generated that worked
against our candidate in the North. This is clear, all Nigerians knew
what happened,” he added.
Metuh made the
statements as a result of calls by several members of the PDP for the
NWC officials to resign over Jonathan’s loss in the elections.
